This page is designed for video cards running in at least high-color mode, and at least 600 pixels across.
All the images on this page were made by me from pictures I took with a Kodac DC120 digital camera. I've been carrying this camera with me everywhere since I got it in August, 1997, and I've gotten into the habit of looking at everything as a potential web background image.
All the images on this page are Copyright © 1998 by John Oswalt, but permission is hereby granted for anyone to use them for any non-commercial purpose. If you use an image as the background on your web page, please give me credit, and send me your URL.
I also have a page of Web background images made from pictures I took in Africa.Click to see a blank page with this background.
Fish in the big "Kelp Forest" tank at the Monterey Bay Aquarium. (Monterey, California)
Wallpaper in John Muir's house. This image is "dummied down" from the original wallpaper. Its design is more complicated than what you see here, and takes 4 times the area to make a "tiling" image. (Martinez, California)
Acorns and oak leaves in my backyard. (San Jose, California)
Ivy on the wall of an old brick building. (Sacramento, California)
Tile on the wall in Union Station. (Los Angeles, California)
Tile on a bench in the courtyard of Union Station. (Los Angeles, California)
Wallpaper in John Muir's house. I'm afraid this image doesn't tile very well; the top doesn't match the bottom. The design on the actual wallpaper is quite complicated. A minimal tiling section would be 8 times bigger than the segment I have here, and if I included it all, the file would be too big to use as a background. (Martinez, California)
A sunset. (Palo Alto, California)
Tile on the floor of the men's room at the Stanford Theater. (Palo Alto, California)
Wallpaper in John Muir's house. (Martinez California)
Wild pea flowers. (Berkeley, California)
Design on a steel I-Bar in the subway. (New York, New York)
A vulture flying overhead. (Berkeley, California)
