Goreme

The Goreme open-air museum, in Cappadocia, Turkey. The hills everywhere around here are made of soft rock (compressed volcanic ash), and people have been carving houses out of them for at least 2,000 years. I took this picture from inside one of the man-made caves on one side of the valley, looking at the other.
